Product Description

All our fish, shrimp and corals are bagged with fresh oxygen as well as a heat pack in winter.

When ordering livestock please select the box size and add it to your cart for accurate overnight (1-2 days) shipping costs. A small box can take 1-2 bags and a medium box 6 bags. One bag fits max 10 small (1-3cm) fish or max 2 medium (3-5cm) fish or max 1 large (>5cm) fish.

King Blue Tetra (Boehlkea fredcochui) Description and Care Requirements

Description:

  • Appearance: Striking blue body with a silvery sheen; often features iridescent blue highlights and a black stripe along the side.
  • Size: Grows to about 1.5-2 inches (4-5 cm).
  • Fins: Long, flowing fins that may also display blue and black coloration.
  • Behavior: Peaceful and social; prefers to swim in groups.

Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum of 10 gallons; larger tanks are better for a school.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 74-82°F (23-28°C)
    • pH: 6.0-7.5
    • Hardness: 5-15 dGH
  • Filtration: Moderate filtration to maintain water clarity; gentle water flow is ideal.
  • Substrate: Fine gravel or sand; can include plants for a natural habitat.
  • Hiding Places: Provide plenty of plants, driftwood, and decorations for cover.
  • Diet: Omnivorous; feed a varied diet of high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods (e.g., daphnia, brine shrimp).
  • Tank Mates: Best kept in groups of 6 or more; compatible with other small, peaceful species.
  • Behavioral Note: Active swimmers that enjoy open swimming space; can be shy without adequate hiding spots.

  • Maintenance: Regular water changes (10-20% weekly) to keep the environment clean.
  • Monitoring: Watch for signs of stress or illness; seek veterinary care if needed.
