Product Description

All our fish, shrimp and corals are bagged with fresh oxygen as well as a heat pack in winter.

When ordering livestock please select the box size and add it to your cart for accurate overnight (1-2 days) shipping costs. A small box can take 1-2 bags and a medium box 6 bags. One bag fits max 10 small (1-3cm) fish or max 2 medium (3-5cm) fish or max 1 large (>5cm) fish.

GMO X-Ray Tetra (Pristella maxillaris) Description and Care Requirements

Description:

  • Appearance: Similar to the standard X-Ray Tetra but may feature enhanced coloration due to genetic modification; often exhibits bright fluorescent hues.
  • Size: Grows to about 1.5 to 2 inches (4-5 cm).
  • Fins: Rounded fins with vibrant colors; dorsal fin may be more pronounced.
  • Behavior: Peaceful and social; enjoys being in schools.

Care Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum of 10 gallons; larger tanks are preferable for a school of fish.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 72-82°F (22-28°C)
    • pH: 6.0-7.5
    • Hardness: 4-12 dGH
  • Filtration: Moderate filtration to keep water clean; gentle flow is ideal.
  • Substrate: Fine gravel or sand; live plants can enhance the environment.
  • Hiding Places: Provide plants, driftwood, and decorations for shelter.
  • Diet: Omnivorous; feed high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, and occasional frozen or live foods (e.g., brine shrimp, daphnia).
  • Tank Mates: Best kept in groups of 6 or more; compatible with other small, peaceful fish.
  • Behavioral Note: Active swimmers that appreciate open swimming spaces and group dynamics.
