Bubble Coral (Plerogyra sinuosa) – Care Guide & Description
Description:
The Bubble Coral is a stunning and unique LPS (Large Polyp Stony) coral, known for its large, soft, bubble-like vesicles that expand during the day. These "bubbles" range in color from pearly white to green or pinkish hues, and give the coral a soft, inflated appearance that adds elegant texture and movement to reef aquariums.
At night, the bubbles retract, revealing long feeding tentacles used to capture food. This coral is a showpiece and can thrive in a variety of tank setups with the right care.
🛠 General Care:
-
Lighting: Low to moderate. Bubble Corals prefer subdued lighting, making them perfect for lower sections of the tank or shaded areas.
-
Flow: Low to moderate. Gentle, indirect flow is ideal—strong flow may damage the delicate bubbles.
-
Placement: Lower regions of the tank, away from aggressive corals. Ensure there’s space for the bubbles to expand without contact.
-
Water Parameters:
-
Feeding: While photosynthetic, Bubble Corals benefit from occasional feedings of meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp. Target feeding in the evening, when tentacles are extended, is most effective.
⚠️ Notes:
-
Bubble Corals have long, sweeper tentacles that can sting nearby corals. Leave several inches of space between them and other species.
-
Avoid direct handling or pressure on the bubbles, as they can be easily damaged.
