Chantal Van Der Mescht is an animals rights activitist who has taken upon herself the monumental task of caring for animals in the informal settlements around Nelson Mandela Bay, she has a specific focus on the Lorraine area in places like 'Piet se Bos". She helps feed over 200 dogs and facilitates neutering and spaying to ensure there isnt a population explosion in areas that cannot sustain them. This includes getting care and vaccinations when required, confiscation of puppies as well as adults from unfavourable situations and then finding them fur ever new homes with loving families. This is only possible due to donations and support the community provides Chantal coupled with her complete devotion to her cause.
