Green Rhodactis Mushroom Coral
Scientific Name: Rhodactis sp.
Common Names: Green Mushroom, Hairy Mushroom, Rhodactis Mushroom, Bullseye Mushroom
🪸 Description
The Green Rhodactis Mushroom Coral is a hardy and vibrant soft coral known for its rich green coloration and textured, fleshy surface covered in short tentacles. These tentacles give it a soft, “hairy” look that shimmers beautifully under blue lighting.
Rhodactis mushrooms are excellent for adding lush color and movement to reef aquariums. They can expand impressively when happy, forming carpets over rockwork and frag plugs. Their durability and adaptability make them perfect for both beginners and experienced reefers alike.
⚙️ Care Level: Easy
This coral thrives in a wide range of conditions and is one of the most forgiving soft corals available.
💡 Lighting
-
Low to Moderate (PAR 30–80)
-
Prefers lower light; too much intensity can cause the mushroom to shrink or bleach.
-
Ideal for shaded or lower areas of the aquascape.
🌊 Water Flow
-
Low to Moderate
-
Gentle flow helps prevent debris buildup without detaching the coral from its base.
🧪 Water Parameters
Parameter | Ideal Range |
---|---|
Temperature | 24–26°C (75–79°F) |
Salinity | 1.024–1.026 |
pH | 8.1–8.4 |
Alkalinity | 8–9.5 dKH |
Calcium | 400–450 ppm |
Magnesium | 1250–1350 ppm |

🍤 Feeding
-
Primarily photosynthetic, but can absorb dissolved nutrients and capture fine particulate foods.
-
Occasionally feed with reef roids, phyto, or small meaty foods for faster growth and deeper color.
🪸 Placement
-
Place on rockwork or substrate in lower light areas.
-
Can spread over time, so give space or isolate if you don’t want it to overgrow other corals.
-
Avoid strong currents or direct contact with aggressive species.
⚠️ Notes
-
Can release mild toxins or overgrow neighboring corals if space is limited.
-
Ideal for nano reefs and soft coral setups.
-
Very hardy — tolerates nutrient-rich systems better than most corals.
