A living river stone

The Burmese Gecko Hillstream Loach is a true specialist — built for fast water, smooth rock, and constant flow. With its flattened body, wide pectoral fins, and intricate spotted pattern, it clings effortlessly to glass and stone, earning its popular “gecko” nickname.

This species isn’t flashy in motion, but mesmerizing up close, grazing biofilm and algae like a miniature freshwater ray.

Feeding

Primarily a biofilm and algae grazer. Supplement with:

• Sinking algae wafers

• Repashy gel foods

• Blanched vegetables

• Occasional frozen foods

A mature tank with natural growth is strongly recommended.

Social Behavior & Compatibility

• Very peaceful

• Best kept in groups of 3 or more

• Compatible with other calm, current-loving species

🦐 Shrimp compatibility:
Generally shrimp-safe with adults, but shrimplets may be eaten if encountered. Dense cover recommended if kept with shrimp.
