Ceramic Noodles can be identified as ceramic tubes approximately half an inch. The products primarily provides mechanical filtration, effectively acting as a sieve to trap particles of waste. Ceramic Noodles should be used in the second stage of the filtration. The irregular arrangement within the filter basket creates eddies of water which disperses in many paths creating an even flow of water for subsequent media layers. Ceramic Noodles are also porous and after prolonged use, they will provide substantial surface area for bacterial colonization. This product is a useful source of “back up” bacteria.
1) Replace noodles when it breaks/crumbles or when it is clogged up with dirt.
2) Never replace all this material at once, you will be destroying valuable denitrifying bacteria. Suggested is to replace half and mix with old half.
