🐟 Betta Fish (Betta splendens) – Description

• Brightly coloured freshwater fish with long, flowing fins
• Popular colours: red, blue, black, white, and multi-colour varieties
• Known for their territorial and aggressive behaviour (especially males)
• Labyrinth organ allows them to breathe air from the surface
• Ideal as a centrepiece fish in smaller aquariums
• Lifespan: ±2–5 years with proper care

🏡 Tank Requirements

• Minimum tank size: 15–20 litres (bigger is always better)
• Heater required: 24–28°C (stable temperature is important)
• Gentle filtration (avoid strong currents)
• Lid recommended (bettas can jump)
• Soft substrate and smooth décor to prevent fin damage

🌿 Aquascaping

• Prefer planted tanks (live or silk plants)
• Floating plants help them feel secure
• Provide hiding spots (driftwood, caves)
• Avoid sharp or plastic decorations

🍽️ Feeding

• High-protein diet (they are carnivores)
• Feed quality betta pellets as staple
• Supplement with frozen/live foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp)
• Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily
• Avoid overfeeding (common issue)
