Product Description

🐌 Species Overview

  • Common name: Chocolate Poso Rabbit Snail

  • Scientific name: Tylomelania sp. (“Poso” strain)

  • Origin: Lake Poso, Sulawesi, Indonesia

  • Adult size: 5–8 cm (2–3") including shell

  • Lifespan: 3–5 years

🌈 Appearance

  • Smooth, elongated conical shell with a rich chocolate-brown coloration.

  • Body is soft and extends from the shell when active; generally dark brown or grayish.

  • Slow-growing and graceful, making them attractive for display aquariums.

🏞 Tank Requirements

  • Tank size: Minimum 60L, preferably with stable, mature water.

  • Water parameters:

    • Temperature: 24–28 °C

    • pH: 7.5–8.5 (slightly alkaline)

    • GH: 8–12

    • KH: 4–8

  • Aquascape: Soft substrate preferred; snails like to burrow and move across plants, rocks, and driftwood.

  • Tank type: Best in planted or species-only setups. Avoid aggressive fish that may harass them.

🍽 Diet

  • Omnivorous detritivores: feed on biofilm, decaying plant matter, and leftover food.

  • Can be supplemented with blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach) and calcium-rich foods for shell health.

  • Do not overfeed; remove uneaten food to avoid water quality issues.

👫 Behavior & Compatibility

  • Peaceful and slow-moving; never aggressive.

  • Compatible with other peaceful invertebrates (shrimp, snails) and small non-predatory fish.

  • Excellent for community or nano tanks where their grazing helps control detritus.

🐣 Breeding

  • Livebearers; lay fully formed juvenile snails rather than eggs.

  • Breeding is slow and requires stable water conditions.

  • Juveniles are miniature versions of adults and require similar diet and water quality.
