Cichlid-Red Neck Severum(50-60mm)

The Rotkeil Severum is a stunning South American cichlid known for its dramatic colour development as it matures. Closely related to Heros efasciatus, the Rotkeil (“red shoulder” in German) develops a bold red to orange marking across the head and upper body as it reaches adulthood.

This is a fish where patience truly pays off — juveniles and adults look completely different.

🎨 Colour Change – Juvenile vs Adult

Juveniles:

• Silver to olive base colour

• Faint vertical barring

• Red/orange shoulder marking either very light or not yet visible

• Often appear plain compared to adults

Adults:

• Deep golden, green, or olive body tones

• Prominent red/orange “shoulder” or head patch

• Stronger facial markings

• More intense colour in dominant or breeding individuals

Colour intensity improves with:

• Age and maturity

• High-quality varied diet

• Stable, clean water

• Low stress environment

📸 Please note: Photos may show both juvenile and fully developed adult specimens. Juveniles will not yet display full adult red shoulder coloration.
