Green Star Polyps (GSP) – Care Guide & Description
Description:
Green Star Polyps (Pachyclavularia violacea) are a fast-growing, hardy soft coral known for their vibrant neon green polyps and waving grass-like appearance. When fully extended, they resemble a lush field of green under flowing water—making them a striking and dynamic addition to any reef tank.
GSPs are excellent for beginners and experienced reefers alike. Their resilience and rapid growth make them ideal for covering rockwork, frag plugs, or even the back wall of your aquarium.
🛠 General Care:
-
Lighting: Moderate to high. GSPs thrive under a range of lighting conditions and often show enhanced color under actinic/blue lighting.
-
Flow: Moderate to strong. Adequate water movement helps keep the polyps clean and promotes healthy extension.
-
Placement: Can be placed on rockwork, sandbeds, or vertical surfaces. Keep isolated if you want to control spread.
-
Water Parameters:
-
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic. Supplemental feeding is not necessary, but they may benefit from occasional broadcast feedings of fine particulate coral foods.
⚠️ Notes:
-
GSPs are extremely fast growers and can overtake rockwork or neighboring corals if not managed. Consider placing them on an isolated rock or island to control spreading.
-
Minimal maintenance coral, ideal for soft coral gardens and movement in the tank.
