Product Description
Product Description
Hellfire Anemone (Actinodendron spp.) is a fascinating and unusual marine anemone, prized for its intricate, branching tentacles and striking appearance. Also known as the Tree Anemone or Branching Anemone, this species has a distinctive bushy, feather-like structure that resembles an underwater tree.
Found naturally in the Indo-Pacific, Hellfire Anemones inhabit sandy and rubble-covered reef environments, where they anchor their foot beneath the substrate and extend their highly specialised tentacles to capture prey.
Although visually spectacular, Hellfire Anemones possess an exceptionally powerful sting, making them suitable only for experienced marine aquarists with dedicated species-specific aquariums. Their unique appearance makes them captivating display animals, but careful handling and appropriate housing are essential.

Feeding & Placement
Hellfire Anemones are carnivorous and should be offered appropriately sized meaty marine foods, such as finely chopped shrimp, krill, mysis shrimp or marine fish. Feeding approximately 1–2 times weekly is a reasonable starting point, adjusting according to the animal's feeding response.
Provide a mature, stable marine aquarium with a sufficiently deep sandy substrate to allow the anemone to anchor its foot securely. Gentle, indirect water movement is preferred, avoiding strong currents that may disturb the animal.
Unlike many commonly kept reef anemones, some Actinodendron species do not depend on strong reef lighting. Their precise lighting needs should be determined by species identification.
Important Safety Information
WARNING: EXTREMELY VENOMOUS – EXPERT CARE ONLY
Hellfire Anemones possess powerful stinging cells capable of causing severe pain and skin reactions in humans. Their sting can also seriously injure or kill neighbouring fish, corals and other aquarium inhabitants.
-
Never handle with bare hands. Use appropriate protective equipment and tools.
-
Keep in a dedicated, species-specific aquarium rather than a mixed reef.
-
Avoid housing with ornamental fish, shrimp or other corals.
-
Protect pump and filter intakes, as anemones may relocate.
-
Seek urgent medical attention for severe pain, spreading symptoms, breathing difficulties or other signs of a serious reaction.
Coastal Pets Care Recommendation: Due to their exceptionally potent sting and aggressive nature, Hellfire Anemones are recommended exclusively for experienced marine aquarists with specialised systems.
