Common Name: Asian Ambulia, Dwarf Ambulia
Scientific Name: Limnophila sessiliflora
Origin: Southeast Asia
Difficulty: Easy
Growth Rate: Fast
Placement: Midground to background
Light Requirements: Low to high
CO₂ Requirements: Optional (helps with density and color)
Tank Size: 10 gallons and up
Water Temperature: 68–82°F (20–28°C)
pH: 5.5–7.5
Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (2–12 dGH)
Can thrive in low to high light.
Under higher lighting, you’ll get denser, bushier growth and even a hint of red at the tips.
Lower lighting results in taller, leggier growth but still healthy.
CO₂ is not necessary but will enhance color, thickness, and speed of growth.
Responds well to liquid fertilizers, especially nitrates and micronutrients.
Grows in both inert and nutrient-rich substrates.
Trimming: Regular trimming keeps the plant bushy and prevents it from shading others.
Propagation: Easy — simply cut and replant top portions.
Space stems slightly apart when planting to allow for better light penetration and airflow.
Delicate, feathery leaves similar to Cabomba but much easier to grow.
Reaches 12–20 inches tall, ideal for background or side planting.
Can form dense thickets — great for fish fry or shrimp cover.
Can melt when first introduced to a tank due to emersed-to-submersed transition — give it time.
Grows very fast in ideal conditions — may need trimming weekly.
Popular in low-tech and beginner setups due to its forgiving nature.
