🌿 Ludwigia Repens Care Guide

🔍 Overview

• Common Name: Ludwigia Repens, Red Ludwigia

• Scientific Name: Ludwigia repens

• Origin: North America

• Difficulty: Easy

• Growth Rate: Medium to fast

• Placement: Midground to background

• Light Requirements: Moderate to high

• CO₂ Requirements: Optional (helps with coloration and growth)

🌱 Tank Requirements

• Tank Size: 10 gallons and up

• Water Temperature: 68–82°F (20–28°C)

• pH: 6.0–7.5

• Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (3–8 dGH)

💡 Lighting

• Moderate lighting is sufficient, but high lighting brings out deeper reds and oranges.

• Under low light, leaves may remain green or fade in color.

• Ensure light reaches the lower leaves to avoid melting or yellowing at the base.

🧪 CO₂ & Fertilization

• CO₂ not required but enhances color and density.

• Benefits from liquid fertilizers, especially iron, which boosts red pigmentation.

• Root tabs can help in nutrient-poor substrates but aren't always necessary.

✂️ Maintenance

• Trimming: Regular trimming encourages bushy, compact growth.

• Propagation: Easy — snip a healthy stem and replant it in the substrate.

• Remove any melting or unhealthy leaves to avoid algae buildup.

🌾 Growth Behavior

• Grows vertically and outward, making it ideal for mid to background placement.

• Can reach 12–20 inches (30–50 cm) in height.

• Often used in aquascaping for color contrast against green plants.

⚠️ Important Notes

• Ludwigia repens is ideal for beginner to intermediate aquascapers.

• Avoid planting too densely at first — it needs good circulation and light between stems.

• Looks best when planted in groups of several stems for a fuller, natural look.
