Melocactus Cactus M58

When young, these cacti feature a plain, green, ribbed globular body with sharp, spreading spines. The defining characteristic of the genus Melocactus is that once the plant reaches reproductive maturity (typically taking several years), it stops growing outward and develops a dense, colorful woolly crown at the top called a cephalium. Small flowers and berry-like fruits will then emerge exclusively from this crown.
