Product Description

🦐 Species Overview

  • Common name: Sakura Red Shrimp

  • Scientific name: Neocaridina davidi (Sakura strain)

  • Origin: Taiwan (selectively bred from wild Neocaridina species)

  • Adult size: 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2")

  • Lifespan: 1–2 years

🌈 Appearance

  • Vivid red coloration, intensity varies by grade (some marketed as “Cherry,” “Sakura,” or “Fire Red”).

  • Body is translucent when juvenile, deepens to solid red with maturity.

  • Females are typically larger and more brightly colored than males.

🏞 Tank Requirements

  • Tank size: Minimum 10–20L for a small colony.

  • Water parameters:

    • Temperature: 20–26 °C

    • pH: 6.5–8.0

    • GH: 4–8

    • KH: 0–4

  • Aquascape: Heavily planted tanks, moss, hiding spots, and smooth substrates help shrimp molt safely.

🍽 Diet

  • Omnivorous: algae, biofilm, and detritus.

  • Accepts sinking shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein supplements.

  • Feed sparingly to avoid water quality issues.

👫 Behavior & Compatibility

  • Peaceful and ideal for community shrimp tanks.

  • Best kept in groups of 10+ for activity and breeding stimulation.

  • Avoid aggressive or predatory fish; small rasboras, otocinclus, or pygmy corydoras are suitable tank mates.

  • Can coexist with larger fish if plenty of hiding spaces are provided.

🐣 Breeding

  • Extremely easy to breed in freshwater.

  • Females carry eggs under the abdomen (saddle visible in juveniles/females).

  • Fry feed on biofilm, algae, and fine powdered foods.

  • Rapid breeding means a single pair can quickly establish a colony.
